How To Stay Focused In The Time Of Your Pursuits

For me, my success is having a feeling of euphoria, with a shot of dopamine when I know I’ve helped someone in some type of way.  See, I live by faith hope and charity, with charity being the most important of all.  That’s my focus.

How To Stay Focused On A Journey Meant For You Only?  It involves many factors, including your daily habits, nutrition, rest, exercise, and discipline to name a few.

If your focus is on success, and since success is a relative concept, then maintaining focus will depend on an individual’s deep desire to empower him/herself to reach their goals.  Please if you have any comments share it at the end of this article, you could be helping others.

To master the art of maintaining focus, one must first and most importantly be true to oneself. If you do not recognize and accept your situation for what it really is, then this will be a long uphill battle for you.

The number one thing stopping people from success is fear, it stops us from dealing with our professional and personal life challenges. Moreover, you develop a comfort zone and accept your life as is when you do not face your fears.

When I first started my life journey, I had that fear coming at me in different forms; excuses, guilt, and procrastinating are all fears.  But I did not know that this was my problem in succeeding.

Fear Of Success

Furthermore, I could not understand the concept of someone being scared of success.   With an open mind, researching, talking to like-minded people, and learning the art of self-awareness and the law of attraction, I grew mentally, spiritually, and healthier.

face your fearsAfter a while, inspiration and self-empowerment manifested within my subconscious and I faced my fears.

I know like me, a lot of people have dreams of success and started a journey to achieve such.

We work day in and day out devoting all to our passion.

But understand, this is not an easy road to travel.  You will be confronted at every turn with persuasion, manipulation, trickery, and mind games.  We start to lose interest and might not focus at all on some days. “I’ll do it tomorrow” is what we told ourselves.

Under those circumstances, it is easy to lose control.  Furthermore, at this point, if you recognize what is going on, it is time to regroup.  Because you can fall into a depressed state of mind if you stay on this path.  If you do not control of fears, you will fail.

Control the negative energy of fear and own it. Then turn it into a productive positive energy, and you will succeed.  The most important part in handing fear is to face it head-on with courage.

Accept it, and learn from it. Don’t try to defeat it, it can be won.  As Mark Twain once stated, “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear – not an absence of fear.”

Taking Control

These eight habits can improve cognitive function and protect against cognitive decline for a lifespan.

Mental Tips

  • Willpower is like a muscle, the more you exercise it, the stronger it will become.
  • Think of yourself as a mentally strong person who controls their own thoughts.
  • No one can do this for you. You have to work hard to increase your willpower.
  • Success comes to ordinary people who do things in an extraordinary way.
  • Do not mistake envy with the desired goal. Envy makes you weak. Inspiration and passion make you strong.
  • Do not make a goal out of something you do not have already as a great passion in your life. Use something that inspires you and gives you certainty and confidence. Then the plan is much bigger and goes for it.
  • Create a time log to see and understand how you spend your time.
  • Use small incentives in between tasks to motivate you.

Improve Cognitive Function

1. Physical Activity

The Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) discovered more evidence that physical activity is beneficial for brain health and cognition.

The study found that certain hormones, which are increased during exercise, may help improve memory. The researchers were able to correlate blood hormone levels from aerobic

The researchers were able to correlate blood hormone levels from aerobic fitness and identify positive effects on memory function linked to exercise.

2. Openness to Experience

Lead researcher Denise Park of the University of Texas at Dallas says, “It seems it is not enough just to get out and do something—it is important to get out and do something that is unfamiliar and mentally challenging, and that provides broad stimulation mentally and socially. When you are inside your comfort zone you may be outside of the enhancement zone.”

3. Curiosity and Creativity

dare to dreamAt Michigan State University it was found that childhood participation in arts and crafts leads to innovation, patents, and increases the odds of starting a business as an adult.

The researchers found that people who own businesses or patents received up to eight times more exposure to the arts as children than the general public.

“The most interesting finding was the importance of sustained participation in those activities,” said Rex LaMore, director of MSU’s Center for Community and Economic Development.

“If you started as a young child and continued in your adult years, you’re more likely to be an inventor as measured by the number of patents generated, businesses formed, or articles published. And that was something we were surprised to discover.”

Self Awareness

“If you started as a young child and continued in your adult years, you’re more likely to be an inventor as measured by the number of patents generated, businesses formed, or articles published. However, that was something we were surprised to discover.”

“Our study suggests that exercising your brain by taking part in activities such as these across a person’s lifetime, from childhood through old age, is important for brain health in old age,” concluded co-author Robert S. Wilson, Ph.D.

4. Social Connections

Stay Focused And Be YOURSELF Professor of Psychology, John Cacioppo, from the University of Chicago, presented findings (link is external) which identified that the health consequences of feeling lonely can trigger the psychological and cognitive decline.

Cacioppo’s researcher found that feeling isolated from others can: disrupt sleep, elevate blood pressure, increase morning rises in the stress, and the hormone cortisol.

Furthermore, it can alter gene expression in immune cells, increase depression, and lower overall subjective well-being…all of these factors conspire to disrupt optimal brain function, connectivity and reduce cognitive function.

5. Mindfulness Meditation

Researchers at Harvard’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center identified that the brain changes associated with meditation and subsequent stress reduction may play an important role in slowing the progression of age-related cognitive disorders like Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

Rebecca Erwin Wells, MD, MPH, explained, “We were particularly interested in looking at the default mode network (DMN)—the brain system that is engaged when people remember past events or envision the future, for example—and the hippocampus—the part of the brain responsible for emotions, learning and memory—because the hippocampus is known to atrophy as people progress toward mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease. We also know that as people age, there’s a high correlation between perceived stress and Alzheimer’s disease, so we wanted to know if stress reduction through meditation might improve cognitive reserve.”

6. Brain-Training Games

Scientists are beginning to better understand the specific mechanisms of how patterns of electrical pulses (called “spikes”) trigger a cascade of changes in neural circuits linked to learning and memory.

Furthermore, researchers from Tel Aviv University found that “stimulant-rich” environments and problem-solving puzzles could be a contributing factor in preventing or delaying the onset of Alzheimer’s disease in some people.

“It’s an intensive activity for the brain to consolidate learning, so the brain may benefit from sleep because more energy is available.

Or because distractions and new inputs are fewer,” says author Yuka Sasaki, a research associate professor at Brown University’s Department of Cognitive, Linguistic, and Psychological Sciences.

8. Reduce Chronic Stress

Neuroscientists have discovered that chronic stress and high levels of cortisol can damage the brain. Also, a wide range of recent studies has affirmed the importance of maintaining healthy brain structure and connectivity by reducing chronic stress, which lowers cortisol.

Neuroscientists at the University of California, Berkeley, found that chronic stress triggers long-term changes in brain structure and function which can lead to cognitive decline.

Their findings might explain why young people who are around chronic stress early in life are prone to mental problems such as anxiety and mood disorders later in life, as well as learning difficulties.

Thanks for responding. You know if you can’t put two hours of excersise in try getting it done in increments through the day. While at work walk what you can stretch and do chair excersise at lunch and at breaks. Just try to sneak excersise in throughout the day.

You offer a lot of good advice and tips. I especially like the quotes. I agree it is so important to stay focused and not allow distractions to consume your time or interrupt your concentration. Your suggestion on exercise may be a goal, but it is hard to allot 2 hours or more to exercise everyday if you work 8 or more hours. Getting up and moving every 15 -30 minutes is good. I often sit way too long at the computer without moving.
